Hungarian-American Lawyers Association
The Hungarian-American Lawyers Association bridges the legal communities of Hungary and the United States — rooted in the rule of law, national sovereignty, and common heritage.
Founding Event · April 28, 2026 · Hungarian Embassy, Washington D.C.
HALA fosters enduring bonds between Hungarian and American legal professionals through shared scholarship, cultural exchange, and a steadfast commitment to the principles that underpin Western legal traditions.
Core Objectives & Goals
HALA conducts continuous research to discover, identify, and — where possible — contact lawyers of Hungarian roots currently practicing across all 50 U.S. states. This Legal Census serves to identify individuals in the judiciary, private practice, and government sectors with a connection to Hungary; build a proprietary database of the Hungarian-American legal diaspora to facilitate professional and cultural reconnection; and document the historical and contemporary contributions of Hungarian-American lawyers to the legal profession.
HALA prioritizes the development of the next generation of legal talent by fostering professional growth and international mobility. This includes internship and clerkship facilitation to assist law students in both countries in securing practical experience in foreign jurisdictions; academic exchange supporting mobility for students and young associates to study or train in the U.S. and Hungary; and mentorship pairing senior practitioners with students and junior lawyers based on shared heritage and practice areas.
HALA provides a forum for the exchange of legal theory and practice. The Association hosts symposia and conferences focused on the intersection of the American and Hungarian legal systems; develops white papers and scholarly discussions regarding conservative jurisprudence and the evolution of the rule of law; and facilitates a Knowledge Hub where members share best practices across their legal fields.
Mapping the Hungarian-American legal diaspora across all 50 states to build a comprehensive professional network.
Internships, clerkships, and academic exchange programs connecting the next generation of legal leaders.
Symposia, white papers, and conservative jurisprudence forums fostering intellectual dialogue.
