About Us

About HALA

The Hungarian-American Lawyers Association was founded by academics, attorneys, and legal professionals who share a common commitment: to strengthen the ties between the Hungarian and American legal communities and to build a lasting transatlantic network of legal professionals.

HALA brings together lawyers, legal scholars, judges, and law students with roots in or connections to both countries — united by the belief that cross-border professional relationships are essential to the future of legal cooperation between Hungary and the United States.

Our Mission

HALA pursues its work through three core pillars:

Mapping the Diaspora

We are committed to identifying and connecting Hungarian legal professionals across all fifty U.S. states — building a living directory of the Hungarian legal diaspora in America, and ensuring that no professional is isolated from their community.

Supporting Student Mobility

HALA actively supports the movement of law students between Hungary and the United States — fostering exchanges, academic partnerships, and opportunities that allow the next generation of legal professionals to develop a genuinely transatlantic perspective.

Research and Scholarship

We conduct and promote research that reflects the values of our organization — advancing legal knowledge at the intersection of Hungarian and American law, and contributing to the broader scholarly dialogue between our two countries.

HALA was founded on the conviction that strong legal communities require strong connections — across borders, across generations, and across disciplines.
